yonatan’s random thoughts

... because I can.

mclibel - great movie

just told somebody about this movie, and had a hard time finding it on google (couldn't remember the name).
after a few minutes I finally found it and found out it seems to be online!
I think this movie is much better than "super size me" and other more provocative movies,
and the story is much more inspiring...
do yourself a favor and watch it:

united breaks guitars

I just love the concept of "vote with your dollar", and I occasionally find places of visit where I will never set foot again on account of not being nice to me or any other old readon. this guy took it a few steps further, and produced a song about his experience with united airlines. the song is not half bad either! and I'm sure to never carry important goods on a united airlines flight.

more hitler fun

following the success of my last post, I opened a "hilter gets mad at..." playlist.
subscribe and follow me on this magical journey!

hitler is bigger than ever

as a funny(?) gag.
it seems like any topic can benefit from a little sprinkle of the old hitler powder.
here's a short list. it's mostly geek stuff, with the occasional clip appealing to the rest of you out there.

my personal favorite - hitler in the academic reserve (hebrew subtitles):

and looking for parking in tel aviv: (english subtitles)

and hebrew subtitles:

and developing software with the Agile methodology:

and doing unit tests while at it:

hitler banned from WOW servers:

one I couldn't figure out about counter strike:

and another one about something I didn't get at all:

and finally, hitler doesn't get resident evil 5:

somebody should create a channel soon!
know of any good "hitler does ..." clips?

royksopp - remind me / my beginning to read book series

as a child, I loved those books that prepared you to be a part of the modern society - where food comes from, how things are manufactured, there was always a very clear simple order and elegance to things.
the fireman, the cow and the cook were all happy wheels in the big machine, and I was to become one myself, but I was still free from the obligation to choose my position and live it harmoniously.
this video reminded me of that feeling: [embedding was cancelled for this video, you can go here to watch it:]

how I feel now

turns out I didn't post "superstar" after all.

apparently it's had a sort of comeback since it was a part of the "juno" soundtrack (a good movie in it's own).

anyway, I'm listening to it much more than I anticipated, hope it helps someone else with their depression:

... and here's the original:

Miss PLO, Charlie Megira and Sonic Youth about Keren Carpenter.

I had a great time at the MEHOGA last thursday,
the lovely and enigmatic miss PLO did the warm up for charlie megira and the modern dance club.
you can get some feel for it here:

and for the modern dance club performance here:

someone did a great work shooting this on video and editing.

the drummer was very cool, and leaning over the drums with her hair moving about chaotically, she reminded me of Goya's "saturn devouring his children",(no offense intended):

and last but not least, after watching the movie "Irma Vep", I had to listen to sonic youth's "Tunic (song for keren),
which is quite related to "Superstar" (which's youtube video I already posted before):

that's all for now folks.

Ryskinder - best thing since sliced bread and peaches / a groupie is born

I was fortunate enough to attend a Ryskinder performance yesterday (on friday afternoon) at salon Berlin (Tel Aviv).

found this picture on flickr, and I say, if it looks like an electro rock star, sounds and quacks like one, it's bound to be a star: http://www.flickr.com/photos/galigurevich/2902445618/

despite the fact it was a micro concert (small room, small audience), I thought it had some important deliveries:

1) the crowd was well dressed and good looking, which clearly shows Ryskinder has a bright future ahead of him.

2) Ryskinder delivers true rock energies, I was amazed to see how he plays what seems to the untrained eye to be a panel with keys and knobs, and produces amazing sound from it. I went back to his myspace page, and although I love the music, it doesn't deliver the full experience. true rock energies, from a respectful lineage containing iggy pop and peaches.

I will definitely go to the next concert(s).

you can also hear him at "loving without being acquainted" - a radio show that's also available in podcast (here's the episode he was a guest at):
